A court in Athens sentenced on Tuesday the so-called “Medea of Patras” Roula Pispirigou twice to life imprisonment for the murder of her children 3-year-old Malena and 6-month-old Iris.
Roula Pispirigou has been already serving a life sentence for the murder of her 9-year-old daughter Georgina by injecting her with a fatal dose of ketamine. She was found guilty almost a year ago.
On Tuesday, the members of Mixed Jury Court in Athens unanimously found Roula Pispirigou guilty of intentional homicide, in a calm state of mind, in series.
They had fully upheld the prosecutor’s position that 35-year-old woman “was methodical and calculating,” killing her daughters as she was driven by an obsessive fixation on the girls’ father, Manos Daskalakis.
“She suffocated her children so that she could keep her husband close,” the prosecutor had said.
Malena was killed in 2019 while in hospital receiving treatment for leukemia, Iris was suffocated in her bed in 2021. Also Georgina died in a hospital, where she had been admitted after suffering “cardiac arrest,” at home in 2022.
Hearing the court decision, Pispirigou who was holding the pictures of her two dead daughters in her hands addressed the court saying “Look at them, because they will haunt you once again.”
She challenged the judicial procedure saying “from the beginning I believed in a fair trial and not like Georgina’s trial.”
It is worth noting that the prosecutor had also accused “of negligence” the forensic examiners who investigated the girls’ deaths saying that their “failures” allowed Pispirigou to get away with her crimes for years.
Pispirgou’s appeal against the conviction for murdering Georgina is scheduled for May 5. She announced to appeal her Tuesday sentence.
