Meteorologists and the National Meteorology Service EMY have warned of powerful northern winds blowing with intensity of 9 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea on Sunday, June 29, 2025.
Every summer wildfires destroy thousands of hectares in Greece due to human negligence or arson. Sometimes the cause can also be a lightening bolt of some defective cable of the old and not maintained network of the power distribution system.
According to initial estimations and evidence, the wildfire in south-eastern Attica on Thursday, June 26, was caused by a defective cable of a power column in a mixed residential and green area inside the Thymari, Palaia Fokaia settlement, Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, GGiannis Kefalogiannis stated on Friday.
