One in two Greeks cannot go even on a week-long vacation, Eurostata data has shown.
According to these data, Greece is among the top three European countries, ranking second in the percentage of the population that is unable to take a vacation even for one week.
First is Romania and third is Bulgaria. In fact, the percentage in Greece (46%) is almost double that of the European Union (27%).
In fact, the country is in a worse position since 2023, as it “climbed” from 4th position to 2nd one.
“In other words, Mitsotakis’ government has made a real championship race in order to increase its performance in impoverishing the people,” noted news website imerodroms.gr.
According to Eurostat data, in 2024, 27% of the EU population aged 16 and over will not be able to afford 1 week of annual holiday away from home. The percentage in the EU decreased by 1.5 percentage points compared to 2023 and is significantly lower (by 10.6 percentage points) than a decade ago, in 2014.
In fact, the same conclusions were reached by the IELKA (Retail Consumer Goods Research Institute) survey, where 52% of respondents stated that they did not plan to go on holiday this year.
The highest percentages of people who do not have the financial means to take a one-week annual holiday were recorded in Romania (58.6%), Greece (46%) and Bulgaria (41.4%).
In contrast, 8.9% of people in Luxembourg, 11.6% in Sweden and 13% in the Netherlands reported that they could not afford a 1-week vacation away from home in 2024.
PS Ach, who was the minister who said also beginning of summer 2025, when Greeks complained about high transport, accommodation and restaurant prices, that Greeks should not go to the islands or other popular destinations of foreign tourists but rather to “their village” “or less popular places in the mainland.” Last year it was one arrogant ND MP and deputy minister …, this year’s statement … I don’t remember by whom.

Headline should read Week-long not Weak-long
huh? thanks
It’s a modern day Greek Tragedy!! 🎭
