An elderly man has died in the wildfire in Keratea in south-east Attica, the Fire Service announced shortly 6:30 early on Friday evening. It was firefighters who found the man while they proceeded to extinguish the fire in the construction he used as him home in Togani area.

Also in the fire, his two dogs died. They were chained and could not escape, media reported.

The 76-year-old man was living alone with his two dogs in a simple-built cnstruction that was around 600 meters away from the point where the wildfire started earlier.
The fire victim was found in a sleeping position in his bed by firefighters, ALPHA TV reported.
Nearby were his two dogs also char-coaled.
According to the TV channel, neighbors heard the dogs barking in agony but they could not come closer, neither did they imagine that their elderly neighbor was inside, as he used to leave the house and spend the day in Keratea village.
Alpha TV reported also that investigators of the Fire Service are closely examining a power pole nearby considering that the wildfire started from there, most probably from an electric-circuit.
Meanwhile, the wildfire is completely out of control due to the gale-force winds blowing in the area.
Already several house have burned down, their number, however, remains unknown until know. The fire Service said it will announce the figures once they have managed to conclude their operation.
Emergency line <112> has been keeping sending messages also in the evening urging residents of several settlement in the area to evacuate.
