Fire ALERT Greece: Extreme High Risk also on August 10 (MAP)

Greece’s Civil Protection warns of Extremely High Risk of Fires – Alert Category 5 – for three regions across the country as well as of Very High Risk – Category 4- and High Risk – Category 3- for Sunday,  August 10, 2025.

Alert Category 5 is forecast for the following regions:

  • Attica
  • Evia
  • Viotia

Very High Fire RiskCategory 4 is forecast

  1. Region of Western Greece
  2. Region of Peloponnese
  3. Region of the Ionian Islands (Zakynthos, Kefallinia, Ithaca, Lefkada)
  4. Region of Central Greece (Phthiotis, Phocida, Evia incl. the island of Skyros)
  5. Region of the North Aegean
  6. Region of the South Aegean (Regional Units of Cyclades islands)
  7. Region of Crete
  8. Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (Rhodopi, Thassos, Xanthi, Evros incl. the island of Samothrace)
  9. Region of Central Macedonia (Halkidiki, including Mount Athos)
  10. Region of Epirus (Preveza)
  11. Marked YELLOW on the map are regions on High Fire RiskCategory 3.

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection  of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection has set the competent state services involved on alert, as well as the Regions and Municipalities of the above areas, so that they are on increased civil protection readiness in order to immediately deal with any fire incidents.

At the same time, the Civil Protection recommends that citizens be particularly careful and avoid actions in the countryside that can cause a fire through negligence, such as burning dry grass and branches or cleaning residues, the use of machinery that causes sparks such as circular saws, welding devices, the use of outdoor barbecues, smoking bees, throwing lit cigarettes, etc. It is also recalled that during the fire season, burning fields is prohibited.

In the event that they notice a fire, citizens are asked to immediately notify the Fire Department by calling 199.

Meteorologists have warned of gale-force winds (KTG report HERE!) that will prevail also on Saturday, August 9, therefore the Extremely High Fires Risk due also to the prolonged absence of rainfalls.
