Air raid sirens sounded alarm and church bells rung on and off across Greece on Wednesday morning, October 1, 2025.
From 11:00 until minutes before 13:00 the warning systems were activate in different intervals, a sound duration ranging from 60 to 120 minutes, and each time warning for depending on the “attack” and threat.

The alarm signals had starting and ending warning sound for air raids and threats from CBRN, that is Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear weapons.
Every once in a while there was an intermittent sound of different intensity (starting alarm) and four minutes later a continuous sound of constant intensity (ending alarm).
The warning went on and on, we, in a suburb of south Athens, had had a set of 5×2 sets with the last one to be the most annoying: the CBRN warning that lasted 120 endless seconds.
Truth is that when I head the first one I thought “Oh, Great! the sirens here are working!”
Older cat, Kitty, who was relaxing lying on the back of the couch, raised her head a bit and took a glimpse outside. She didn’t bother with the ending signal. She reacted also to the second set and then her curiosity was over. She dived in deep careless sleep.

In contrast, younger cat, Zen Zuzu, who spent 2 years of her life on the streets exposed to any kind of noises, did not even blink or turned an ear. For her it just another (wednes-)day.
Side note: Kitty is very sensitive also to slightest earthquake tremor accompanied by a sound, while Zuzu is just …Zen!
The Point is: For two hours, we got hit with any sorts of missiles, bombs, chemical and nuclear weapons and no official went through the streets to shout with a megaphone: “Stay at home! We have no shelters to seek protection!”
On the other hand, why keep bothering with a 2-hour sirens testing, when we’ll die right after the very first sound because No Shelters?
Of course, the threats were not real. The Civil Protection sirens testing was just part of the large-scale military exercise “Parmenion 2025”.
The testing takes place almost every year during this exercise. However, it was the first time the test lasted so long. it is normally one set of “attack” starting and ending.
BTW: Our parish priest was probably having a nap and forgot to ring the church bells.
POLL
How about you? Did you hear the sirens?

Nothing happened here on Aegina as the siren was broken 🚨🤣
nice
Nothing heard in SW Corfu – again. Pretty rubbish system if it can’t be heard by the entire population!
In the area around Plakias, south Crete, the alarm went on twice within 5 minutes and two times the same. No churchbells. Also no shelter.
Lots of “no”!
Here in Kaisariani we heard the sirens (no church bells despite being surrounded by churches) but they
were different than other years, much quieter and oddly stop and go, so it seemed like some mistake was happening.
Not a peep in my village near Chania. No siren, no bells. Same as last time.
Not even church bells for us !
Great reporting again .
We heard one siren at 11.35. Nothing else
I live in Crete. Platanias Chania District
About 6 km from Maleme military airport….heard nothing at all… Probably on general strike…. Or maybe they don’t have sirens…. Or even soldiers. Bit disappointed what if aliens are coming!?😂
aliens? they come in peace…
