Varoufakis under criminal investigation for saying he used drug “ecstasy” in 1989

A criminal preliminary examination by the Athens First Instance Prosecutor’s Office was ordered into Yanis Varoufakis’ statements regarding the use of drug ecstasy… in 1989.

The prosecution will investigate whether offenses such as incitement and advertising of drugs have been committed.

Varoufakis spoke of his personal experience with drug “ecstasy” at the age of 28 in a podcast of a journalist two days ago. In a relaxed tone, he said he took ecstasy while he was in Sydney, Australia, in 1989, and he was dancing for 16 hours. “It was an awesome experience, I don’t know what they gave me, I had headache and never took again,” he said among others.

It was reportedly the Drugs Division of the Greek Police that submitted the video to Justice with a request to investigate possible criminal offenses.

It should be noted that the first official who lashed out at Varoufakis with not very appropriate language was Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis.

In an later interview with OPEN TV, the general secretary of MeRA25 and former Finance Minister under left-wing SYRIZA clarified that the problem with drugs is addiction, while he added that “I only took ecstasy once, weed is different.”

“I will never lie to young children. I didn’t intend to talk about drugs, but when they ask me, should I lie? Lying doesn’t work. He gave a whole lecture to these children. My sermon was “watch out for addiction.” The drug mafia,” Yanis Varoufakis said among others.

“When you tell the truth, children listen to you”

Later on Wednesday, Varoufakis made a post on social media, denouncing hypocrisy of the ministers of Health and Citizen’s Protection..

Hypocrisy: The opium with which Adonidis and Chrysochoidides appease the people and youth

In the country where drugs are rampant, drug traffickers operate undisturbed and the state provides them with bonuses (unintentionally or sometimes voluntarily), the Adonidis, Chrysochoidides and the Orwellian Lie & Slander Team were recruited to demonize me because I dared to answer honestly to young people.

But the young people heard what they needed to hear, appreciating MeRA25’s non-compliance with the decency that surrounds the mafias that govern us. They heard me talk to them about the major problem that is addiction, which is guaranteed by the repressive state of the Adonis and Chrysochoides, which, the more it imprisons users, the higher it sends the prices of drugs and the greater the profits it ensures for the drug mafias.

Fortunately, the young people appreciate our honesty and MeRA25’s policies on the big issue of drugs – permanent policies that are a nightmare for the drug mafias as they would dissipate their profits. And, yes, young people despise the hypocrites who tear their clothes to shreds that they are waging a “war” on drugs while their policies keep the youth captive to drug traffickers.

That’s how things are. In a country where the bankruptcy of many is covered up by the fake Greek success story, it is logical that hypocrisy and lies are rampant and that political personnel engage in furious demonization of those who resist.

MeRA25 is sitting on their throats because it resists without considering the “political cost”. Let them get used to it. This is how we will continue!

It should be noted that the first who lashed out at Varoufakis was Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis
