Protesting farmers and livestock breeders from some regions of central Greece started to gradually moved their tractors away from the highways and motorways on Wednesday following decisions taken at their general assemblies and a meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Monday, January 19, 2026.
The last tractors of are expected to have left the Athens-Lamia National Highway by midday on Friday, January 23, after 53 days of being on the roads with dynamic blockades.
Farmers, livestock breeders and representatives of other professionals of the country’s primary sector were not satisfied from the meeting with the Premier who was not willing to meet their requests.
Our mobilizations are not being abandoned but reassessed,” the hardliners among the protesters told media adding they would consider even blockades in Greek capital Athens.
The blockade committees are seeking to evaluate the situation and shape a new framework for continuing their demands, this time with different forms of action.
At the Kastro blockade, the departure of the tractors will begin from midday on Friday, according to the decision of the general assembly. The farmers, however, are also awaiting the nationwide meeting of the blockades in order to determine the next steps in a coordinated way.
At the same time, the removal of tractors from the Atalanti blockade is scheduled from Friday morning, while at Bralos the withdrawal will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, following a decision taken late on Tuesday night at the farmers’ general assembly.
In Evia, the farmers who took part in the protests have already removed their tractors from the High Bridge of Chalkida, and their decisions are expected regarding how they will seek to press their demands in the coming period.
