Greeks have a negative attitude towards the attack on Iran, they overwhelmingly disapprove U.S. President Donald Trump and they have reservations about the EU-US relations a recent poll has shown.
The concern about geopolitical developments in the Middle East and especially about the conflict with Iran is clearly reflected in the new Metron Analysis poll conducted on behalf of MEGA TV, recording a society that is wary of international military options, but also divided regarding the role of the West.
Stable, but not indisputable, the EU-US alliance
Citizens appear divided about the future of relations between the European Union and the United States. 50% estimate that they will remain allied forces, while a significant 43% believe that they will follow divergent paths. This image suggests an underlying uncertainty about the cohesion of the West in an environment of increasing tensions.
Trump’s assessment is sharply negative
The image of the American president is overwhelmingly negative in Greek public opinion. 86% negatively assess the way he is performing his duties, compared to just 10% who express a positive opinion.
The negative attitude is almost universal on the Left (98%) and remains the majority even among right-wing voters (71%), although the highest percentage of positive opinions is also recorded there (25%). This trend shows that, despite political differences, the image of the American leadership does not convince Greek society.
Clear opposition to the use of bases for attacks on Iran
The reaction of citizens to the possibility of Greece becoming involved through military facilities is also strong. 67% say they agree (absolutely or rather) with the position of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who denies the use of bases for attacks on Iran.
On the contrary, only 20% disagree, which reflects a broad social preference for avoiding direct military involvement. This attitude is almost universal among left-wing voters, while among right-wing voters it appears more balanced, without however overturning the overall picture.
The vast majority rejects the attack on Iran
The clearest message of the poll concerns the military conflict itself: 72% of those questioned consider that the attack by the US and Israel against Iran is not justified. Only 24% consider it justified.
Opposition is almost absolute on the Left (96%), while even on the Right the majority (56%) remains negative, despite increased acceptance (39%) compared to other political groups.
Overall, the findings outline a society that views the West’s military options with skepticism, rejects the escalation of tension with Iran, and appears reluctant to actively support such operations.
At the same time, the preservation of the transatlantic alliance is not taken for granted, while the image of American leadership records historically low levels of acceptance.
