An “explosive cocktail” of Sahara dust, mud rains and temperatures over 30 degrees Celsius is forecast to hit Greece in the following days, marking the end of spring and the beginning of summer.
Mercury will climb to 30° C by the end of the week but also exceed into higher levels as of Monday, May 11, 2026.
The gradual rise in temperature that will reach and exceed 30 degrees will be combined with the transport of African dust near Friday and a few mud showers, according to meteorologist Clearchos Marousakis.
Marousakis noted that the barometric low on the coast of North Africa will push warmer air masses towards Greece.
According to Marousakis tomorrow, but especially on Friday, these clouds will dominate most geographical areas and will be accompanied by a few mud showers to complete the action of this episode of African dust transport on Saturday. Then the atmosphere will gradually clear.
Winds are turning to southern – southeastern, as this barometric low approaches Greece and will reach 6 to 7 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea.
From Saturday, May 9, temperature will rise again and from next week will rise further above 30°C to 33°C.
From Sunday onward, the conditions will be summer-like.
