It was a quiet and peaceful late afternoon on Sunday when a sudden and deafening noise started coming closer and closer, terrifying the two cats napping comfortable on the couch and had a few pigeons and seagulls in the area moving their winds as quick as they could to fly away from the “invisible monsters” chasing them.
On the sky there was nothing to see due to the thick, grey-yellow Sahara dust dome covering the city of Athens.
The noise disappeared and returned again a couple of minutes later. The cats had found refuge in the bedroom, under the bed and when I checked them out they looked at me with terrified big eyes.
Then I remember there was a flight show event in Floisvos area in neighboring Palaio Faliro, suburb of southern Athens.

It was an event to mark the 95th anniversary of the Greek Air Force with a magnificent show.
At 6:00 PM in the afternoon, the show started over the heads of crowds of people gathered along parts of the Athens Riviera to watch the impressive aerial spectacle.
For a short time, the sky of Athens was transformed into a huge “stage”, where the timeless evolution of Greek wings unfolded.
Flights of legendary aircraft, such as the historic and iconic Spitfire, to jets such as Phantoms, advanced F-16s and ultra-modern Rafales, they all performed spectacular formations and maneuvers of dynamic precision.
The flights were not only an impressive audiovisual show, but also a tribute to the journey of the Greek Air Force, reminding those on the coastal front of the readiness and constant evolution of the forces that protect Greek airspace.
PS Good 40 minutes after the jets noise had disappeared one cat ear and half an eye appeared at the edge of the door… it was the elderly cat who wanted to make sure the noisy troublemakers were gone. I told her “Finished!” and then she conformity entered the living room, walked to the couch, jumped next to the cushion, laid down and closed her eyes. The younger cat needed a bit longer… but in the end the peace in our little world was fully restored.
