Unprecedented tragedy in south Athens: Two teenagers jumped into the void from the roof top on the sixth floor of an apartment building in Ilioupoli at noon on Tuesday.
One of the 19-year-old girls died, while her friend is hospitalized in critical condition.
Authorities investigate with all scenarios being open, examining mainly the possibility of suicide, an accident or even a criminal act.
The tragedy occurred around 12 o’ clock noon on Eleftheriou Venizelou street, where one of the girls was living with her family.
According to initial information, the two girls went to the rooftop and locked the door to it before falling into the void.
The teenagers were rushed to Asklepieion Hospital in Voula, while the health condition of the second girl is also considered serious.
According to the latest information, one girl succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital where doctors could only confirm her death. The second girls has been intubated is in a very critical condition, with doctors trying to keep her alive.
A man who owns a shop next to the scene of the incident told media that he “heard screams and then a loud bang. I turned my head and saw the two girls.”

The man called immediately the ambulance service and police. He added that a woman from the building also rushed outside, and a young man in shock, who said that one of the girls was his sister.
The exact circumstances of the incident are being investigated, while ELAS Press Spokesperson, Konstantina Dimoulidou, stated that “all possibilities are open.”
So far, the police authorities are examining all possibilities, from criminal act, accident to suicide, with the last of the three scenarios gathering the most possibilities.
