Greece is entering a two-day period of intense atmospheric instability, which will be affected by two barometric lows and will bring Sahara Dust and mud showers. One of the barometric lows comes from the coast of North Africa, while the second from more northern latitudes.
According to the forecast by Clearchos Marousakis, the result is the creation of two types of weather. The first barometric low, in fact, will raise significant amounts of Sahara Dust and some mud showers.
Today, Friday, 15. May 2026, the day started with single-digit temperatures in some areas, but in most parts of the country they were double-digit and by noon the thermometer was expected to reach even 26 degrees Celsius.
Starting tomorrow, Saturday, the country will be divided into two parts.
In the Center, West and North there will be rainfalls and local storms, while in the South of Greece high temperatures and Sahara Dust are forecast, although there will also be some short and light mud showers.
As of Sunday, the winds will shift to west-northwest and the atmosphere will be clearing.

The prevailing atmospheric circulation associated with the rapid passage of a barometric low will cause the transport of desert dust towards our country. Dust concentrations on Saturday 16/05 will initially increase in the west and gradually in the rest of the country, but from the afternoon they will be limited to the south and east. By the early hours of Sunday 17/05, dust concentrations will decrease significantly in the south and east.
The maps in Figures 1 and 2 present the atmospheric dust concentrations near the ground that are expected in the morning and evening of Saturday 16/05. The significantly increased concentrations that are expected in the western parts of Crete in the evening hours of Saturday 16/05 are evident.
