Greece’s Independent Market Surveillance and Consumer Protection Authority imposed administrative fines totaling 576,128 euros for unfair profitability in coffee, cereals and juices.
The fines, as part of intensive controls to address unfair profitability phenomena in the market, were imposed to only two companies.
As stated in the relevant announcement by the Authority, the company JACOBS DOUWE EGBERTS, which operates in the coffee category, was fined 248,061 euros for exceeding the permitted gross profit margin in 20 product codes.
At the same time, the company PEPSICO HELLAS M.A.B.E.E. was fined 328,067 euros for exceeding the permitted gross profit margin in 12 product codes in the cereal, chocolate and juice categories.
According to the Authority’s announcement, the violations concern the period from March 13 to April 3, 2026 and consist of exceeding the permitted profit margin in violation of applicable legislation.
The Authority notes that the examination of other files continues at an intensive pace, while new decisions are expected in the near future.
At the same time, it underlines that it will continue its systematic controls in the market, intervening where practices that violate the legislation and harm the interests of consumers are identified.
PS and now I’m more furious when I was in the morning when I bought my filter coffee at the super.
In my real Greek life I still paid the same price of €12,80 for 500 gr of this average quality Filter coffee Jacobs as in March and April when in Germany is sold for less than €7.
What’s the point of fines if there is no follow up by the authority to check if these companies comply with the market and profit limits?

Hier op een Grieks eiland betaal ik inmiddels bijna € 15 voor hetzelfde pak koffie
The Sklavenitis own brand is 5,70 Euros and in my opinion tastes much better than Jacobs
