Tourist scattering ashes of beloved one on Santorini street (video)

Tourists have caused strong reactions on the iconic island of Santorini and on social media after they allegedly scattering the ashes of a deceased person on a public street in Oia.

A video has captured a woman followed by a small group of people walking down the picturesque stairs, singing and scattering the ashes of the deceased along the way.

According to media, the group were British tourists.

Video:

Captured by cameras and mobile phones, the video was quickly uploaded on social media and caused reactions as some users saw an “extreme but deeply emotional move,” while others were “shocked” and asked whether such move is permitted in the country.

In Greece, the scattering of ashes is only permitted under certain conditions, in a specially designated memorial area, in an open space outside a residential area or in the sea.

So far, there have been no news on Santorini local media that the woman was punished or fined by local authorities.

PS who could like to have people step on the ashes of a beloved one, human or pet? Not me…

  1. This is not normal or even permitted legally in the UK. Brits would have the same reactions as Greeks: it’s a group of nutcases doing it.

I step into beloved poop every day. Some people just love to share and spread their pet love around…

  3. I think that was very stupid on their part, the British come to Greece and always make the news because of some BS they did. They act like they have been caged and come to Greece and loose their minds. Why not in your own Country, that was not respectable to action for the residents and the air quality of others. Did this person die of a disease and now you are spreading their ashes. They should be fined for their actions.
