The war between municipality workers/garbage collectors and political authorities got a new dimension and claimed its first victim on Thursday. Simos Daniilides, mayor of Neapolis/Sykeon. The battle started at the mayors meeting in Athens, when municipality workers from the POE-OTA union entered the building, went up to 3rd floor. Daniilides, the first mayor supporting the privatization of garbage collection and asked the prosecutor’s intervention on the occupied land fills, asked the workers to leave. The first wave of anger landed on the mayor in form of water bottles, coffee cups and papers. Some even tried to force him wear a black hood. Fists followed…

Meanwhile the Minister of Interior was unable to hold his press conference on the garbage issue at 1 pm as he was unable to escape protesting garbage collectors who hindered him or civil servants occupying state buildings. There is a possibility that the pc will be held at the Parliament at 5 pm.
