Athens: Pharmacists Cancel Protest and Hand Out Medicine Free of Charge Again

Posted by keeptalkinggreece in Society

Finally a good news: Pharmacists in Athens, Piraeus and Achaia  cancel their protest and as of tomorrow Friday, insurers will be able to get prescription medicine free of charge. As of 1.1.12 pharmacists had stopped handing out prescription medicine because of the outstanding debts of the insurance funds to them. This form of protest drove thousands of people to despair because they had to pay in advance their medicine and then ask refund from the insurance funds. On their part, the insurance funds were promising people, they would get the refund in a couple of months. Last Monday, the majority of the pharmacists had abolished their protest after the Treasury had paid some overdue debts and promised to pay in installments according to a timetable.
