Lagarde: Not In a Mood for Negotiation with Greece

International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde said she is not in the mood to renegotiate the terms of Greece’s bailout agreement.

“I am not in a negotiation or renegotiation mood at all,” Lagarde said in an interview on CBNC television Bloomberg reported. “We are in a fact-finding mood.”

Officials from the IMF, European Central Bank and the European Commission begin a visit to Greece today to assess the country’s progress in implementing the terms of its second international bailout.

A meeting between Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and the Troika is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Greece will tell its creditors that high unemployment and recession necessitate changes to the country’s bailout agreement, government spokesman Simeon Kedikoglou said.

“I’m sure that they will have excellent numbers to show in various directions,” Lagarde said in the CNBC interview. “I’m very interested in seeing what has been done in the last few months in terms of complying with the program.” (further reading: Businessweek)

PS I suspect Lagarde was more in a mood for dancing, romancing…. due to July Full Moon.

  1. Personally, I am not interested in the mood swings of an elderly overpaid woman. What is more important is that the Troika-IMF plans for the Greek economy are in contradiction to standard economic theory and history, and cannot deliver anything other than economic collapse.

So, the question is whether or not the IMF is in a mood to discuss economic rationality. That amounts to more or less the same as renegotiation of the impositions laid on Greece, since the clearcut evidence is that they cannot work, have not worked, will not work, and never have such plans worked for any country in the history of the world.

Lagarde’s personal opinions and moods are trivial. It is about time someone told her that, but we can be sure that Spineless Samaras will not do so.

  2. Maybe she would be “in the mood” to be locked up with a large dog in a small cage for the weekend? Bark baby!

    • You can be sure that she collects much more. Did you hear about Blair’s finances? The guy comes from an average family, so all of his money has to be earned or stolen. British PMs are not well paid… Since leaving office, he has amassed up to 80 million euros, with about 9 companies across the world, doing what? Nothing. Just making connections between politicians and businessmen.

Not only is Blair a war criminal for the invasion of Iraq, he is also part of the modern political and banking corruption.

  3. The “moment of truth” for Greece is imminent, as there will be no renegotiation of the MoU. Be prepared.
