The first Syrian refugees arrived in Germany on Monday morning under the controversial EU-Turkey deal of refugees exchange and send backs. In this silly children’s game called “EU Turkey Deal”, now Turkey has to take 16 Syrian refugees from Greece.
The 16 asylum seekers were flown from Istanbul, Turkey, to the city of Hannover in Germany. They will be taken to a refugee shelter about 140 km away. “A second group of Syrians was to arrive in Hanover around midday,” a German refugee official told AFP.
A German Interior Ministry spokesperson said last week that most of the arrivals on Monday would be families with children.
A representative from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, who did not give her name, asked reporters to respect the privacy of the asylum seekers, who were members of three families. An AFP reporter saw five children among them.
“This is all very new, very difficult,” she said. “They have been traveling for a very long time.”
One protester also arrived to meet the group, holding a banner reading: “Please keep fleeing, refugees not welcome.” (via TheLocal.de)
Under the EU Turkey Deal, one Syrian refugee will be re-settled from Turkey in a European country. In Turkey will accept back a Syrian refugee who has arrived from Turkey to Greece after March 20th 2016. Of course, provided that this “Syrian refugee” has not applied for EU asylum in Greece and his application has been approved.
Much to my understanding the EU Turkey Deal does not clarify what will happen with the Syrian refugees who arrived in Greece after March 20th, and their asylum application is approved by the army of the 2,300 EU-Staff. But you may tell me that I’m looking for a needle in a haystack.
April 4th is the date for the official implementation of the EU – Turkey Deal. On the islands of Lesvos and Chios the Frontex Operation “Mass-Deportations in the Dawn” started as early as 6 o’ clock in the morning, two hours later 202 people had arrived back to Turkey.
