€One in three stations have made changes in their pumps, thus stealing 5% to 11% from the vehicles tanking and up to 15 cents per liter form the drivers’ pockets. Control checks conducted by the Finance Ministry and the General Secretariat of Metrology Industry during one month ended to these results.
The controls were conducted by a “secret vehicle” that had a special tank hidden and was able to measure the actual quantity of fuel literσ being poured from the pump to the vehicle tank..
According to daily To Ethnos, the first checks were conducted in in south-west suburbs of Athens and Piraeus: Korydallos, Tavros, Keratsini and Nikaia, areas from which authorities had received complaints about.
Deviations in pumps were ranging from 5% to up 11%. Which means that for 50L of unleaded gasoline at the price of €1.43 per liter, the driver would be robbed with 3.5 to 8 euros.
“These gas stations were using a software that could not be detected through conventional control checks,” the daily notes.
With this trick, the gas stations could earn an extra between €350 and €750 per day. Black money without taxes and other unpleasant fees.
Controllers fined the fraudsters and closed down some of the gas stations. However, the laws have many windows and many open a new gas station with under a new name –
