Two hours after the unprecedented Turkish provocation to send the Chief of General Staff to the disputed Imia islet, the Greek General Staff issued a statement describing the incident.
On Sunday, January 29, 2017, one gunboat of the Turkish Navy and two boats transporting special forces approached about time 1100 the block of Imia isl., where they remained for about 7 minutes in the wider sea area, violating wit this move the Greek territorial waters (GTW).
On the Greek side, in the above mentioned sea area, there were boats of the Coast Guard and the gunboat of the Greek Navy, which continuously monitored the movement of the Turkish vessels.
With the entry of Turkish vessels in GTW, all necessary actions for similar cases were taken immediately.
The Turkish vessels subsequently moved to the port of Bodrum.
