A strong rain- and thunderstorm stroke the island of Kefalonia in the Ionian Sea on Thursday morning causing power outages in several areas of the island including the capitalcity.
According to local media, the rain- and thunderstorm started as early as 6 o’ clock in the morning initially in the west part of the island. Hail fell in the area of Razata.

The storm caused power outage in several areas in and around Argostoli between 6:40 and 8:00 in the morning.

A lightning caused a wild fire in the area of Skala, however fire fighters managed to extinguish the fire before it spread.
There are reports of fallen and uprooted trees.
The storm was so strong that passengers arriving with the early morning flight had to wait for 45 minutes inside the plane before they could get off board.
By 8 o’clock in the morning, 16.8mm rain fell, that is 16.8 tonnes of water/per acre, writes KefaloniaNews.gr

Temperature was at 17 degrees Celsius in the morning but was expected to reach 30C during the day.
A second storm even thought much weaker may strike the island later, local media reported on Thursday morning.
