The new eco-friendly straws have arrived in Athens. Already several cafes, bars and restaurants seem to have started using them, as the era of the plastic straws is over.
The new straws are reportedly made of pressed paper although it is not clear whether they are made of recycled paper. Some Greek internet users claimed the new straws are made of corn – I hope not from Monsanto corn 🙂 -. And some that they sold per 1000 nicely packed in a plastic bag.
According to reports, the eco-friendly straws are so constructed that they can stay for enough time in coffee, juice and drinks without dissolving.

So far, there have been no reports that the new straw was dissolved in the Frappe glass of a real Greek man who in the average needs between 45 and 60 minutes to finish it.
Some Greek internet users despise the idea that the straws are possibly made of the paper we throw in the neighborhood’s recycling bin.

Paper straws were around for 50 years before plastic was used.
