Pan-Macedonian orgs appeal to Greece’s Council of State over Macedonia Agreement

Pan-Macedonian organizations filed an appeal to Greece’s supreme court, Council of State asking for the suspension and annulment of the Macedonia Agreement signed two weeks ago between Greece and FYROM. The organizations claim, the Agreement violates the Greek Constitution.

The 14 organizations and federations claim that the Agreement violates Article 27 of the Constitution which provides that the deal had to be previously approved with an enhanced majority at the Parliament, “because the deal contains change of geographical terms – the region of Macedonia, that is – which are deprived form ancient times.”

Furthermore the Pan-Macedonia organizations claim that the Agreement modifies treaties (the Greek-Serbian Agreement and the Bucharest Treaty of 1913) according to which the modern borders of Greece were set and now “it creates confusion.”

They claim also that the Macedonia agreement legitimize the territorial claims of FYROM against Greece through the alternation of history and creates preconditions for the revision of the Greek borders in the future.

A further claim is that the Agreement was not worked out and drafted by institutions of the Foreign Ministry, and it was not put on Referendum as it should be “because the absolute majority of the Greek people is against it.”

Article 27 of the Greek Constitution refers to change of Greece’s borders.

“No change in the borders of Greece’s territory can take place without a law to be voted by the absolute majority of the whole number of lawmakers.”

PS if the Pan-Macedonians can prove that Greece’s borders have changed … good luck with the appeal.
