The Greek branch of International Atomic Energy Agency has issued a list of precautions for Greek shipping companies and crews of Greek vessels at ports, off shore or near Japan. The EEAE considers the nuclear situation in Japan as ‘worsening’. “Given the state state of emergency following the accident at the power station Fukushima Daiichi, on the eastern coast of Japan, the EEAE advises shipping companies and crews of Greek vessels found in the affected coast of Japan, as follows:
A. Follow the instructions of local authorities.
B. Apply some preventive measures:
-Minimization of staying outdors
-Thorough washing of the deck of the boat
-Thorough personal wash
-Hand-washing before eating
– Usage of disposable clothes or second pair of clothes and shoes for works on ship deck or outdoors in general
– After deposition from the site of the accident, meticulous cleaning of the ship and the crew’s clothes.
C. Contact local authorities regarding the administration of iodine. The intake of iodine is only after prescription and in case of high radiation exposure of the thyroid.
D. As soon as the ship reaches its next destination inform the port authorities.

Οδηγίες προς τα πληρώματα των ελληνικών πλοίων
Δεδομένης της κατάστασης έκτακτης ανάγκης μετά το ατύχημα στον πυρηνικό σταθμό Fukushima Daiichi, στις ανατολικές ακτές της Ιαπωνίας, η ΕΕΑΕ συμβουλεύει τις ναυτιλιακές εταιρείες και τα πληρώματα των ελληνικών πλοίων που βρίσκονται στις πληγείσες ακτές της Ιαπωνίας, ως εξής:
α. Ακολουθείστε τις οδηγίες των τοπικών αρχών.
β. Εφαρμόστε ορισμένα προληπτικά μέτρα προστασίας:
- ελαχιστοποίηση της παραμονής σε ανοικτό χώρο
- σχολαστικό πλύσιμο του καταστρώματος του καραβιού
- σχολαστικό ατομικό πλύσιμο
- πλύσιμο χεριών πριν το φαγητό
- χρήση φόρμας μιας χρήσεως ή δεύτερα ρούχα και παπούτσια για τις εργασίες στο κατάστρωμα ή γενικά σε ανοικτό χώρο
- μετά την απομάκρυνση από την περιοχή του ατυχήματος, σχολαστικό πλύσιμο του πλοίου, του πληρώματος και των ρούχων.
γ. Επικοινωνήστε με τις τοπικές αρχές αναφορικά με τη χορήγηση ιωδίου. Η χορήγηση ιωδίου γίνεται μόνο κατόπιν εντολής και σε περιπτώσεις υψηλών δόσεων ακτινοβολίας στο θυρεοειδή.
δ. Mόλις το πλοίο φθάσει στον επόμενο προορισμό ενημερώσετε σχετικά τις αρχές του λιμένος.
