Much-hated by Greeks Turkish vessel Piri Reis did not sailed long in the waters of the Aegean sea. The seismographic vessel that in fact performs hydrocarbon researches and angers Greeks did not manage more than a couple nautical miles due to mechanical failure. The vessels’ engineers had detected the problem before setting sail but the order they received were “Set sail immediately with the old machine”.
Huseyin Avni Benli, director of the Institute for Marine Sciences, told Turkish newspapers that they would need one month to replace the engine and a generator in the 40 years old vessel.
