A strong earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale occurred on a few minutes after 9 o’ clock on Sunday evening, June 14, 2026, in Methoni, south Peloponnese.
According to the revised solution of the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale.

Its epicenter was in the sea area 18 kilometers south-southwest of Methoni and its focal depth was 9 kilometers.
According to information, the earthquake was felt in Pylos and Kalamata, while residents were disturbed throughout the Peloponnese. Some citizens reported that the tremor was also felt in Greek capital Athens, some 300 km away.

There were no reports of injuries or material damages.
It is worth noting that the first estimate of the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.1 on the Richter scale.
State broadcaster ERT reported that Civil Protection services and the Fire Department are on alert throughout Messinia, while crews are carrying out preventive checks, even in more remote areas, in order to determine whether any problems have been caused by the earthquake.
According to the measurement of the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center, the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter scale and the epicenter was located at a distance of 26 kilometers, south, southwest of Pylos in Messinia.
