The results of exit polls are not allowed to be published before the ballot boxes close at 7 pm. Supreme Court prosecutor ordered urgent investigation as to whether two Greek blogs violated the banning law and posted so-called “exit polls” while the voting is still taking place. The names of the blogs have not been revealed.
The publishing of Exit Polls (randomly chosen voters after voting) before the closing of ballot boxes aim to influence voters and that is not allowed.
The ban refers, of course, to local mass media. Blogs are not considered as ‘media’ in Greece and journalists working for websites/blogs are not allowed to be members of journalists’ union.
Some blogs claim that what they posted were estimations and not official exit polls.
Exit Polls are expected to be released at 07:01 pm on May 6th 2012.
