One firefighter died and 3 others are hospitalized with burns and breathing problems. The firefighters were trying to extinguish several wildfires in Aspropyrgos, Elefsina and Salamina areas some 50 kilometers west from Athens.
According to Greek media, the 28-old man who passed away had inhaled smoke and fainted. In the hospital the doctors could only confirm his death most probably due to heart stillstand. He was driver of the area manager of the Western Attica Firebrigades, who was coordinating the operation.
Three firefighters got injured while combating wild fires in Salamina and Elefsina and were transferred to the hospital with burns and breathing problems.

A wildfire broke in Elefsina area at Wednesday noon and strong winds blowing with an intensity of 7 Beaufort spread it to the military air force 112 CombatWing. The fire burned some land but came under control before reaching the air base facilities.
Very sad and disturbing news. His family will be devastated…
(Isn’t that the airbase where most of the Canadairs are stationed?)
ehm… (brain empty; time to eat something)
