Greek public sector union ADEDY will launch a work stoppage after 12 o’ clock noon and a protest rally in downtown Athens, on Tuesday, November 13th 2012 . Civil workers protest austerity bill measure that will send public workers home with 60-70% of their salary with the option of early or scheduled retirement or dismissal. Minister in charge Antonis Manitakis assured ADEDY that there will be no lay-offs in the public sector. However the unionists claim that ‘reality will prove otherwise’ then the austerity bill voted last Wednesday speaks clearly of trimming down the Greek public sector.
ADEDY will also launch a work stoppage on Wednesday, November 14th, after 12 noon, and a protest rally in downtown Athens.
In a parallel development, municipality workers (POE-OTA) union started on Monday, November 12th 2012, to occupy municipality offices, protesting upcoming lay-offs in their sector. The council of major decided in an extraordinary meeting on Sunday not to send to Ministry the lists of personnel that could be dismissed.
