With 205 votes in favor members of the Greek Parliament lifted the parliamentary immunity of Ilias Kasidiaris, Golden Dawn MP and spokesman of the extreme-right party. On 7. June 2012, during a live TV show, Ilias Kasidiaris punched Liana Kanelli, MP from Greek Communist Party (KKE) after he had thrown a glass of water at Rena Dourou, MP from SYRIZA.
Kanelli and Dourou had not filed lawsuits against him, but the prosecutor has acted ex officio. Kasidiaris will face charges for ‘dangerous body harm”.
After the voting result, Kasidiaris took for granted that he would be acquitted in the court. He criticized the Parliament for not lifting the parliamentary immunities of Kanelli and Dourou as he had filed lawsuits against the two victims.
The lifting of Kasidiaris’ parliamentary immunity was adopted with 205 votes in favor, 3 against and 1 white.
