The preliminary investigation committee of the Greek Parliament investigating the famous Lagarde List and the involvement of former Finance Minister Giorgos Papaconstantinou ended – or not. The meetings of this committee were stormy anyway full of quarrels and under the belt knocks. Nevertheless, the chairman (Nea Dimocratia) of the committee declared today the works for concluded, while the opposition parties (SYRIZA, KKE and Golden Dawn) claim, he issued the finding text without previous consultation with the other members.
To make the long story short, according to the finding issued by ND, PASOK and Democratic Left
former finance minister Giorgos Papaconstantinou is to face three offenses; felony on two cases and misdemeanor on one case.
The offenses are:
felonies: distortion and infidelity to the service
misdemeanor: breach of trust
Papaconstantinou is being accused for having intervened and distorted the content of Lagarde List in favor of his two cousins and their husbands. Lagarde List contains the names of 2,300 potential Greek tax evaders. It was handed out to Greek finance Ministry in autumn 2010.
Communist KKE and Golden Dawn filed their own separate findings. SYRIZA and Independent Greeks demanded extension of the works – a demand that was rejected.
PS Who cares about the fate of Papaconstantinou? If the finance minister does such things while Greece is in harsh austerity and the low incomers and pensioners are economically squeezed like soft lemons, do you believe there is chance that something will change in this troubled country with its frustrated citizens?
The Greek state does not want to combat real big scale tax evasion anyway. And furthermore, the longer such cases take, the quicker the public loses interest.
Greek traditional tactics lol
Does anybody care what happened to the other 2298 Greek citizens that are on that list? Any progress in checking those out? Guess that 2xno?
what a question! it took them 1.5 year to locate the relatives.
PS there was another investigation on a former defmin whose wife on the list. but you know politics: one by one, so journos have time to write their reports.
