Wife and brother of Nea Dimocratia MP arrested on tax evasion suspicion

The wife and the brother of a Nea Dimocratia lawmaker and former minister have been arrested on tax evasion suspicion on Monday. The lawmaker himself, Gerasimos Giakoumatos has avoided  the arrest due to his parliamentary immunity, Greek media report.

According to media, Giakoumatos’s wife and brother are facing charges of tax violations in a nursing home for elderly they maintain in Psichiko suburb of north Athens. MP Giakoumatos, who is on board of directors was not arrested because he is protected with the ‘parliamentary immunity’.

Speaking to media, Giakoumatos said, ” there was a small tax offense for which we were not invited to give explanations.”

Speaking to Zougla.gr,  Giakoumatos said, that the offense was a misdemeanor and stated that the nursing home belongs to his brother and that his wife was president

“There is no offense against me. With regards to my brother, it is a misdemeanor, while he maintains that everything is legal and there is no violation. My wife was just president. She has nothing to do with the case,” Giakoumatos said.

Giakoumatos brother, Dimitris, is the managing director of the nursing home, his wife, Eleni, the president.

PS to tell you the truth I don’t find in the media what’s the involvement of Gerasimos Giakoumatos in the case, except maybe that he provided his service to the company as a doctor.
