An unknown organization calling itself “Anarchist group of anticapitalist action – Black Sundays, Red nights” has claimed responsibility for an arson attack on the offices of the free press weekly newspaper Athens Voice.
The group accused the free press of creating “apolitical masses” and claimed that Athens Voice was contributing to “the system’s propaganda for the abolition of the Sunday holiday and the imposition of night shifts at department stores.”
The statement issued by the group also railed against “state-employer terrorism” which, it said, was perpetuating a situation involving long hours, humiliating wages and a constant state of insecurity for workers.
The arson attack on the offices of Athens Voice, on the third floor of an apartment block in the central district of Exarchia, was carried out in the early hours of Thursday morning and caused extensive damage but no injuries.
The Athens Voice team said in several articles that the newspaper will continue its work.
