Push-Backs: Turkish coastguard with sticks against boat full with refugees

This is how the famous push-backs in the Turkish territorial waters look like: a vessel of the Turkish coastguard approaches a boat full of refugees and using sticks the coastguard tries to push the boat back to the shore.

The shocking video obtained by the BBC, shows how the Turkish coast guard is trying to hinder a boat from reaching the Greek island of Lesvos.

“The 30-second video clip shot by one of the boat passengers shows people wearing life jackets on a rubber dinghy being hit with poles by men standing on another vessel. The people on the boat shout out in Farsi and Arabic.

The incident thought to have occurred in Turkish waters opposite Lesvos early on Saturday.”

The boat of migrants eventually moved away and made it to Lesbos with the video shooter to have apparently handed out for the media.

According to BBC report, a Turkish coast guard official later confirmed the incident, but said the officers had been trying to stop the engine “without harming the refugees”.

He said the standard procedure was to tie migrant vessels to a coast guard boat and bring it back to Turkey, “but this boat of refugees didn’t stop the engine and continued on to Greece,” he added.

The BBC correspondent said he had heard of similar incidents involving other migrants.

With NATO ships in the area screening and monitoring the refugee boats leaving the Turkey, the Turkish coast guard is assigned to hinder them from reaching Greece and consequently Europe.

From the very first moment of the NATO mission to stem the refugee flows through the Aegean Sea, KTG said that at the very end,  “Turkey will be assigned with the push-backs of refugee boats.” the point is to stop the boats before they set sail. The rest is… giraffes sticking their head sin the sand.

    • You have to come to Greece and tells this Greeks but unfortunately for your life Napalm was used in Greece only by cowardly Yankees (and Brits) against partisans – who had no airborne to defend – as the Brits decided to start the Cold War already before the 2nd World War was over, fighting together with former Nazi-collaborators against the so called “Communists”, the later were teaching an-alphabets a modern Greek language.

  1. Erdogun will hang them, standard water-ski by Death Squats of cowards and murderers o.k’ed by bible or quran or is Turkey yet led by an atheistic government? As the boat will jump up and down from the waves of the forerunner and water gets inside tying a boat full of souls makes best chances to sink into Hades and this is also no standard at all, standard would be to empty the boat and board the rescued onto the coast-guard vessel.
May be they tell this standard and missed something: “Greek Coast Guard drowned refugees near Farmakonisi during push-back attempt”

  2. It seems the Turks are “damned if the do, and damned if they don’t”. Turkey has ben criticised for doing little to stop the flow of migrants to Greece, yet when they do attempt to stop them they are criticised for their tactics. It should be obvious that when Turkish officials attempt to turn back a migrant boat determined to head for Greece there is going to be trouble. These people will never just put their hands up and say “ok, you got me”….

    • That’s the big picture, the small one’s different: Just like the Greek coastguard the Turkish rescued tens of thousands out of the sea, in over 2000 operations both together.
