President Barack Obama welcomed Diaspora Greeks in the White House in fluent …Greek. He told them «Ζήτω η Ελλάς» (Ling Live Greece!”) during the traditional reception for Greek Independence Day on March 25th – traditionally celebrated in the White House a couple of days later.
In his speech, Obama spoke of the “unshakable friendship” between the two countries and he concluded his speech with «Ζήτω η Ελλάς».
He also praised the attitude of Greeks to the refugee crisis and said “The Greeks have embraced with humanism those in need.”
Greek Washington correspondents tweeted some minor political “comment that came by US President and Vice Joe Biden, especially with regards to the IMF and the economic crisis. Short before the reception start Joe Biden had a 45-minute tal with Greek prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
@Potus answer to@KaterinaSokou question If he is confident that there we will be a deal: “We are working on it.”
VP Biden to
@lenaargiri : “We were talking for 45 minutes with Greek PM, he’s got some tough decisions to make.”
Chatting with the Diaspora dignitaries, Obama revealed that his wife, Michelle, has the fridge always “filled with Greek yogurt.”
PS Greek yogurt in the White House? Greek Fage or Turkish Cobani?
Only problem is that they always confuse it with their independence day but don’t see that a similar independence day would be to honour a Free America, free after 400 years of white men occupation or how can it be that American Indians were not allowed to enter Boston for more than 400 years?
American Indians : Fighting Terrorism since 1642
