Hundreds of thousands Greek taxpayers are threatened with seizure of their assets as tax offices have already sent 1,492,088 relevant notifications saying more or less: pay or forget your assets.
Freezing of bank accounts, seizure and auctions: homes and properties, shops and land-plots come under the hammer for debts to the state.
The “love letters” from the tax offices are falling like rain and since the beginning of the year, the seizure of deposits from bank accounts have reached half a million.
Tax authorities are determined to fill the cash registers and will seize money not only for debts to tax office but also to municipalities or to other public services like a traffic fine, for example. There are reports that they seize money also for cases of “automatic payment” for tax in advance.
Shocking data and citizens’ debts
According to data released by the General Secretariat of Public Revenues, by end of June 4,003,372 taxpayers have debts to tax authorities that may impose enforcement measures (seizure) to 1,492,088 of them.
From beginning of the year until end of June the overdue debts of private taxpayers amount €6.87 billion – €5.95 billion are due to unpaid taxes.
In June alone, “fresh” debts to the tax authorities were €1.28 – of them €903 million were because of unpaid taxes.
The old arrears to the state amounted €83,025 billion (data until end of 2015)
The total arrears (old and new) by end of June amounted to €89.832 billion.
Enforced collection measures have been imposed to 755,086 taxpayers which is 50% of the total number of taxpayers who face such enforced collection measures.
PS with such over taxation no wonder that private taxpayers prefer to buy food and cover other needs than paying their taxes. The much heralded “fair taxation system” still brings on its knees the so-called small people, low- and medium-low income categories. The much heralded “fair taxation system” has still not cancelled the unfair “taxation of deemed income”. The rest is history, fake ideology and the supremacy of neo-liberalism that soak the blood out of those who can’t defend themselves and protect those who can.
Just how long are people going to endure a string of measures that even Goofy and his friends know make absolutely no sense economically, socially, or politically? Eventually even England had to acknowledge that debtor prison made no sense. But in Greece it seems that the state is still trying to wring money from rocks. Instead of maniacally pursuing every Tom, Dick and Harry that owe 100€ to the State, why dont they go after the big tax cheats who have been ripping the State off to the tune of billions of euros? Everyone knows who they are except no one has the political will to do anything about it.
More than 90% of this are robbery by fines for delay and interest and from people and companies that are long time dead.
If 4 million Greek people owe the Greek Tax Office that must equate to half the adult population. That is a simply mind boggling figure.
600,000 young Greeks now live outside of Greece since 2007, who will replace that tax base? taxes by those people are paid in country of income generation,as is appropriate. Citibank forecast predicted Grexit in 2018, Venizelos has meeting with Boris Johnson, inevitable gears in place for Grexit 2018. the numbers for Greece are unsustainable, conspiracy or not.numbers do not lie.
Banks that change their name after scandals to better rip off new customers are no reliable source, also the 600.000 is a number that was never mentioned in any elections the last years, so lots of these 600.000 move on and back and on and back again.
This government, despite all its retrerick, don’t seem to realise that their tax system, if it moves, breathes or exists tax it, will not work. They need to stimulate the economy, get people working and earning then tax them as a fair proportion of their income, proportionate, I.e. Those that have, pay their share, those that haven’t receive relief.
Tax is killing what ever hope Greece has, it is stifling ambition, killing enterprise, and ruining the prospect of tourism generating revenue for the country, as thanks to the governments regressive tax regime Greece is just too expensive a destination for many tourists. The government could have taken advantage of the demise of so many tourist destinations, but they thought they would be clever and tax tourist to the hilt, well the tourists are not that dumb, obviously the Greece government are.
Government income must come from growth and not just tax, and spending must be cut to match income, it’s time to upset the haves.
More and more tourism is totally the wrong way for Greece – there would be enough Greek tourists anyway! – no need for more idiots who don’t even care about what country they stay, this kind of competition leads into dead-ends marked by 5 billion investments in north of Africa; only for this sake the Drachma would be good: People learn to know in which country they stay and their kids will love to carry crazy coins and pieces of paper back home.
Banning all oil-driven vehicles from the Aegean and from all roads plus banning all forms of electricity not made from wooden-framed wind-mills would bring in 600.000 jobs – only small shares of Junker’s 35 billion are necessary for this but this idea is too “anti-capitalistic” – and with then gained independence and freedom all sorts of modern businesses would be possible boosting all “small” cities.
Dear Ted
The government know very well what they are doing: they rip off their citizens, mostly via imaginary taxes, which they impose by targeting specific social groups at specific times. In this way, they first targeted high cubic capacity cars retrospectively and irrespective of buying price or income. Result: thousands of good quality cars sold at ridiculous prices. Then they targeted property, again irrespective of income. Then they targeted small earners, by imposing taxable nominal (non-existent) incomes on them. Recently they targeted those self-employed by tripling their social insurance contributions. The list is endless, because the aim has nothing to do with state finances and everything to do with the looting of all assets owned by citizens at near-zero prices. The country has no government; it only has employees of the German chancellor faithfully executing the colonialisation programme.
States that still allow to drive cars 20 years after the first global warming genocide called Hurricane Mitch happened, are terrorist organisations that gas and rape Mother Earth and must get abolished.
