For more than 30 hours, an 18-year-old Dutch hiker was waiting for his rescue on an inaccessible mountain slope in Western Greece. The adventure had a happy ending after a Super Puma helicopter of the Fire Service rescued the injured man, brought him to safety and transferred him to a hospital.
The 18-year-old was spending vacations with his grandparents in a trailer wagon in Limnoula, Kato Vasiliki in Nafpatkia.
He left for a mountain hike at 10:00 Sunday morning and his last contact with family was at 12:00 noon, when the graνdfather saw him with binoculars.
As the hiker did not return in due time, his grandparents alerted authorities and reported him as missing on Sunday afternoon.
A rescue team consisting of 27 men launched a search and rescue operation, which was interrupted on Sunday evening without results.
Rescuers found him on Monday morning, after they followed his shoes traces.
He was in an inaccessible slope at Agios Nikolaos area, on the Mountain Varassova on Monday morning.
The Greek Fire Service organized a rescue operation with a helicopter.
According to local media nafpaktianews, the hiker is 18 years old. Other media wrote he was 19 and some 17.
He was taken to the hospital of Rio.
