UPD Catamaran ferry FLYING CAT4 rams into the port of Rafina (video)

Catamaran passengers ferry FLYING CAT 4 crashed into the port of Rafina in East Attica on Monday morning. On board were 209 passengers and 15 crew members.

The ferry crashed as it was trying to dock at the port, initial media reports said.

According to state ERT TV on early Monday afternoon, the catamaran had just left the port of Rafina for the islands when it crashed on the rocks.

The catamaran operates from/to Rafina to the Cyclades islands of Tinos, Naxos, Ios, Sikinos and Folegandros.

The incident happened at 7:15 a.m.

Vessels of the Greek Coast Guard evacuated the passengers and the crew.

Nobody was injured.

According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred due to a mechanical failure. No water leaked into the catamaran, no spill into the sea.

An investigation has been launched.

Passengers had reportedly the choice either to board on another ferry or be transferred with buses to the Attica’s main port of Piraeus, some 50 km away, where they would have more travel options.
