The problem of Greek economy “is not the level of taxation but the distribution of tax burden,” said the coordinator of Parliament’s Budget Office, Fragiskos Koutentakis.he pointed out that although the Greek economy is on positive course, the wounds of the economic crisis will need time to fully close.
In an interview with state news agency amna, Koutentakis said that “the figures for the unemployment rate are even more encouraging as in December there was an annual decrease of nearly three points and a strong increase in employment … However, the crisis of the last decade has left many wounds that, although they have begun to close, the full restoration will take time.”
“The problem is not the level of taxation but the distribution of tax burden,” he said and disagreed with the view that a drastic reduction in taxes will significantly help the economy.
He added that the recent two bond issues were “very successful”.
“The most important thing is that they were oversubscribed, but there was also a significant improvement in the quality of the buyers’ composition, indicating that the Greek state is gradually recovering international confidence,” he noted.
