Citizens of third countries will be able to submit their applications for residence permit through an online platform, the Greek Migration Ministry said on Friday. Modernizing the services to foreigners living and working in Greece, the Ministry also announced the digitization of appointments with authorities as well as the authenticity of electronic residence permits via mobile phones.
According to the Migration Ministry press conference:
a) an electronic appointment platform for the communication of foreigners as well as the other citizens who deal with the General Secretary of Migration Policy and the one-stop services of the decentralized administrations of the country. This platform already operates as a pilot program at the aliens office in Piraeus. It is expected to be installed in the rest of aliens offices in the Prefecture of Attica by end of June 2019.
(b) an electronic reader application for electronic residence permits for third-country nationals. This application enables services and certified users to check the authenticity of electronic residence permits by mobile phone. This application is now operationally available and available to the various public administrations, which deal with third-country nationals.
c) an online platform for online submission of applications or renewal of residence permits. This platform is expected to be piloted in the Immigration Information System by upcoming autumn.
The digitization of the system will save hours of standing queues due to bureaucracy.
