The countdown for the general elections officially starts at 6:30 Monday afternoon, when Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras visits the President of the Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos in order to ask him to dissolve the Parliament and declare general elections for July 7, 2019.
As the request demands a :national reason” the Prime Minister is reportedly expected to name “protection of economy due to prolonged pre-elections period.”
Tsipras’ original plan was to hold general elections at the end of the government’s four-year term in early October. However, the sweeping victory of main opposition party New Democracy at the European Elections had him change his plans and “bow to the people’s will” as media quote the Prime Minister.
After the meeting with Pavlopoulos, Tsipras will attend an event at Megaro Mousikis where he will announce the program of SYRIZA should the party be elected again to form a government.
According to media leakage, Tsipras will announce the four pillars of his program that will affect the economy, the social state, the youth and the environment.
Sources suggest that he will focus on the creation of half a million jobs over the next years, incentives for the hiring of 18-30 years olds and women, investment and innovation. The announcement will also include plans for an “effective public sector”, a strong social state and social insurance.
Among Tsipras’ plans are also decrease of taxation rates for natural persons as well as for businesses.
Tsipras’ program aims to be exactly at the opposite pole of New Democracy program.
