For third consecutive day Turkish aircraft continued a ‘barrage’ of Greek airspace violations and overflights over Greek islands in the Aegean Sea. On Thursday alone, Turkish pilots conducted 95 overflights and violations of the Athens FIR.
The majority of violations were conducted by Turkish aircraft for electronic warfare, while also F-16 fighter jets took part.
At 5:49 pm a formation of F-16 jets flew over the island of Megisti at a height of 26,200 ft.
According to an announcement published by the Greek General Staff, the violations on 13. June 2019 were conducted as follows:
8×2 F-16
5 CN-235 and 2 E/P
Total: 23
Armored: 6
Violations: 18 conducted by F-16 and 77 by CN-235
Implications: 3
Areas: North-East, Central and South-East Aegean Sea
Greek fighter jets intercepted the Turkish aircraft according to international rules and the common practice.
Throughout the week, the Turkish pilots have made dozens of violations, just a few days after Athens and Ankara discussed Confidence Building Measures between the two countries.
All violations take place amid a row between Turkey and the US over the purchase of Russain S-400 missiles systems and American F-35 jets.
