Greece’s National Meteorological Service has updated the weather warning of July 15, 2019 to a Red Alert warning of Dangerous Weather Phenomena.
According to the Red Alert warning issued by EMY on Tuesday, July 16, main features of the weather are strong rainfalls and storms that will be locally accompanied by hailstorms and powerful winds.
Barometric low “Antinoos” is coming from the West and will strike first the islands of the Ionian Sea and West Epirus. According to state broadcaster ERT TV at 3:00 pm, the Fire Service is warning also of possible “waterspouts” especially on the islands of Kefalonia and Zakynthos.

From the afternoon onward: the Ionian Sea, Epirus, Western Macedonia, Peloponnese, West and East Sterea, Thessaly, temporarily Central Macedonia.
During the night to Wednesday: The Sporades islands, Central and North Evia
The phenomena will weaken in North Ionian, Epirus, Western Macedonia and Western Sterea
during the night.
Wednesday, July 17
South Ionian Sea, Peloponnese, Thessaly, the Sporades islands, Eastern Sterea as well as the Central and Eastern Evia.
The weather phenomena are forecast to weaken during the midday hours.
Attica (mainly the West and North) temporarily in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday.

According to meteo.gr, rainfalls and storms are expected to occur across the continental Greece with exception of Thrace, as of midday Tuesday and until late at night.
On Wednesday, the weather phenomena will hit South Ionian Sea, Central and South continental regions, Halkidiki, Sporades and Evia.
The phenomena will be strong mainly in the mountainous areas, Sporades, Evia and the Ionian Sea, and in some cases will be locally accompanied by hail.
Thessaloniki rainfalls and possible thunderstorms are expected throughout Tuesday.
Attica rainfalls with little chance of thunderstorms are as of Tuesday afternoon until the early morning hours of Wendesday.
Crete, Dodecanese local rainfalls and sporadic storms on Wednesday.
