€2,000 for every newborn child in Greece as of 1.1.2020

Deputy Labor Minister Domna Michaelidou said that 2,000 euros will be given to parents of every new born child in Greece as of 1. January 2020. She revised her statement beginning of the week that that the labor benefit will be given to mothers below 30 years old.

“Everybody will receive 2,000 euros, as expenses for a child birth are dissuasive for the family,” she said.

However, “everybody” is not everybody s Michailidou also announced “we also look at introducing income criteria to ensure a sense of justice.”

The allowance will not only apply to women under the age of 30 “as wrongly interpreted, but instead we said that in those cases where a young person decides to start a family, we need to give extra incentives.”

The deputy labor minister did not elaborate on the incentives.

She reiterated a previous announcement of 1,000 euros tax-free for each child.
