Have you ever seen reefs made of plastic? An illegal landfill on the island of Andros collapsed in 2011. Eight years later, reefs of plastic have been formed on the bottom of the sea. Now a group of environment activists is collecting the junk and cleans the sea.
The team of “Aegean Rebreath” posted on its social media page:
“Have you ever seen a bay full of ‘plastic reefs’? We had this very bad experience during our first action in Andros, with the support of the AK Laskaridis Charitable Foundation. Our team was shocked at the sight of the “plastic reefs” that completely covered the seabed. Another clear example of the existence of illegal dumps causing huge problems in the neighboring areas. As you probably know the landfill collapsed in 2011 and ended up in the sea!”
Team Aegean Rebreath will continue the cleaning of the bay on Andros.
