Greece pledges to tackle social exclusion of Greek Roma

The Greek Labor Ministry has pledged to tackle the social exclusion of the Greek Roma. The pledge was made on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Roma Holocaust.

“In remembrance and commemoration of the Roma Holocaust, August 2nd, is dedicated to the memory of the Roma Holocaust, the Porajmos, another crime in the long list of Nazi atrocities.” the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs said in a statement on Friday.

“It is a day of remembrance and reflection, a reminder that racial hatred and totalitarianism give rise to untold atrocities,” the statement added.

“The Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Domna Michailidou, and the Secretary General for Social Solidarity Against Poverty, Giorgos Stamatis, pledge to intensify their actions against social exclusion endured by the Greek Roma,” the statement concluded.

However, the pledge remained vague without mentioning any specific measures and plans in the direction of tackling the social exclusion of the Greek Roma.
