Forest and wild fires continue in Greece nevertheless the prolonged dryness, high temperatures and strong summer winds. In the last 24 hours, the Fire Service had to intervene into 59 forest fires across the country.
Thursday is another day of “very high risk” of forest and wild fires, with the Civil Protection to have issued another warning for August 29, 2019. According to the warning, at very high risk are the regions:
• Attica, Viotia, Evia, Corinth and Argolida.
Orange marks “very high risk” and Yellow “high risk.”
Temperatures will remain high at 36-37 degrees Celsius in the next days, while winds up to 8 Beaufort are forecast for the Aegean Sea.
At least two wildfires broke out in Attica on Wednesday one on the Hymettus Mountain close to Vyronas suburb of eastern Athens and one in Artemida in the both of the Greek capital. Both fires were taken under control despite the strong north winds blowing at that time.

A total of 577 firefighters with 197 fire trucks, hiking teams and volunteers as well as aerial means operated to extinguished fires from Tuesday to Wednesday afternoon.
