“We will seal the Evros river for refugees and will step up measures in the Aegean Sea,” Greek Defense Minister, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, said on Monday.
Stressing that it is not thousands who cross the border from Turkey in North-East Greece but much less, he added “no one will soon pass through the Evros because we will seal it.”
He added that this cannot be done in the Aegean Sea and therefore the surveillance will be increased in the maritime borders between Greece and Turkey.
Explaining how exactly they will “seal” the Evros, Panagiotopoulos said “more observatories, more intensive surveillance, more patrols everywhere.”
“In principle, all means of surveillance will increase along the length and breadth of land and sea borders. The purpose is to deter [the circumstances]. I am not sure that stricter surveillance and more intensive surveillance will bring complete deterrence,” he said.
Pointing out at the increase of arrivals flows he said the “refugees are a big problem that needs to be managed at many levels. Both diplomatic and internal and local.”
He added that the military will be involved in the surveillance as the Aegean areas are “army watchtowers. Under the supervision of the Port Authority, of course, because it conducts the operations.business.”
Unbelievable, instead of all ot efforts to end the wars causing refugees, the refugees are facing another type of war in Greece. Greece cannot be considered a civilized country given these facts.
