A 5-year-old Afghan boy was ran over by truck near the hot spot of Moria on the island of Lesvos on Tuesday.
The boy was playing with a cardboard box and he was inside it when the truck came down the road and turned into a parking lot of a business to make a delivery.
According to local media lesvosnews.net, the tragic accident occurred at Tuesday noon on the road to Moria Identification and Registration Center, some 500 meters away and in Agios Yannis area.
“The boy was playing with a cardboard box in a yard that is used by both a business and an NGO that is distributing goods to the Moria residents,” local media note.
There have been no reports about the boys’ parents and how it came that the boy was playing alone in the area.
Despite its immediate transfer to the hospital in Mytilene, the boy was fatally injured and succumbed to its injuries.
Police has arrested the driver and is investigating the accident.
In a statement Traffic Police of Lesvos said that “according to the preliminary investigation findings of the investigation, the truck driver drifted a cardboard box inside which was the minor. The driver has been arrested, he is charged with homicide by negligence.”
